Elia Barreto Quinones Bio
EL Support Specialist
It is my honor to continue serving as an educator and instructional leader at REAL Journey Academies. With 12 years of experience delivering instruction to diverse learners, I am committed to empowering students with the tools they need to achieve their academic goals through collaboration and teamwork. Born and raised in Venezuela, I began my educational journey by earning a bachelor's degree in English as a foreign language, followed by a master's degree in Spanish as a foreign language. My love for languages and education has been the driving force in my career and continues to inspire my work every day.
Throughout my teaching career, I have been fortunate to work in various settings, teaching students from TK-12 how to read and write in both Spanish and English. I have also conducted online classes, helping students improve their conversational and grammar skills in English. Joining RJA as a Spanish teacher was a rewarding experience, where I demonstrated a strong commitment to student success and embraced innovative classroom practices. As an English Learner (EL) myself, I have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by ELL students. This perspective has shaped my approach to teaching and eventually led me to collaborate with the EL department, culminating in my current role as an EL Specialist.
In this position, I strive to create an inclusive and supportive environment where both ELL students and teachers can thrive. My passion for language, family, and community drives me to bring positivity and growth to all that I do. I am also a proud mother of two wonderful children who inspire me daily. When I am not working, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, exploring new adventures, and singing together. I look forward to continuing my journey of helping others, fostering meaningful connections, and making a difference in the lives of students and staff at RJA.
